1. Intent. The Kankakee County Historical Society desires to make available to private researchers with a view to publication copies of archival material and photographs of artifacts belonging to the collections of the Kankakee County Historical Society. That is to say in publications not funded by, written by, edited by the staff of the Kankakee County Historical Society and not published by the Kankakee County Historical Society. 2. Fees. The researcher/writer must pay all reproduction costs, an hourly research rate if the actual research and selection of documents is performed by the staff of the Kankakee County Historical Society and a copyright usage fee (one per publication).
3. Conditions. The researcher/writer must provide the Kankakee County Historical Society adequate time to comply with a request. In general, the researcher/writer can expect a two-week delay from the time a request is made until the material is furnished. This time frame is in addition to whatever time is required for a photographic reproduction. In the final publication the Kankakee County Historical Society needs to be credited once per photographic reproduction (photograph, archival material or artifact) or once per volume if the material is textual support only, as follows:
4. Selection. The Kankakee County Historical Society reserves the right to decline assistance in support of publications of a political, religious or morally offensive nature.
1. Intent. The Kankakee County Historical Society desires to make the archival material, photographic collection and artifacts belonging to the collection of the Kankakee County Historical Society open to private researchers. However, in order to meet security needs and to preserve historical material--archival and artifact--it is necessary to have private researchers operate under certain guidelines. These guidelines herein adopted for use at the Kankakee County Historical Society are in conformity with the regulations currently in use by the National Archives of the United States and the Library of Congress of the United States, both of which conform to standard professional museum practices. 2. Private researchers are not permitted to actually work in the collection area, or within the secured research library. A Kankakee County Historical Society staff member will bring one box of archival material, or one folder of archival material, or not more than three bound volumes, or one folder file of photographs, or one artifact to a private researcher at any one time. When the private researcher is finished with a specific item, then the staff member will return it to the collection area or to the secured research library as is appropriate and then, at the request of the private researcher, retrieve additional materials in the same fashion. The private researcher will not be permitted to work on archival material or with artifacts without a Kankakee County Historical Society staff member present in the same room. 3. Private researchers are to use only loose copy paper, or paper from a legal tablet and pencils in taking research notes. Felt tip pens and ink pens are not permitted in proximity to the archival material and artifacts being studied. Archival material may be photocopied, but only by a Kankakee County Historical Society staff member. 4. Taking photographs of archival material and artifacts are generally not permitted; however, permission may be secured for photography from the executive director. 5. Food and drink are not permitted in proximity to archival material and artifacts. Copyright © 2005 The
